STRUCTURAL CLASSIFICATION OF JOINTS

The structural classification divides joints into fibrous, cartilaginous, and synovial joints depending on the material composing the joint and the presence or absence of a cavity in the joint.

FUNCTIONAL CLASSIFICATIONS OF JOINTS

Three Categories of Functional Joints

Synarthrosis: These types of joints are immobile or allow limited mobility. ...

Amphiarthrosis: These joints allow a small amount of mobility.

Diarthrosis: These are the freely-movable synovial joints.

CHARACTERISTIC AND CLASSIFICATION OF SYNOVIAL JOINTS

Synovial joints are characterized by the presence of an articular cavity filled with synovial fluid surrounded by a joint capsule. In this type of joint, bones can perform larger movements, in part, because joint surfaces are coated with hyaline cartilage.
